WHITEHORSE, YUKON – August 21, 2024 – Northern Vision Development Limited Partnership (“NVD”), the developer of Hyatt Place Whitehorse, is pleased to announce the framing of the five-story hotel is now complete with siteworks, exterior envelope and interior work underway.
The new hotel is expected to open in summer 2025, and construction has been underway since July 2023 with approximately 40-50 tradespersons working onsite, 300,000 hours of labor invested and more than 20 local businesses providing services and supplies through the project’s General Contractor, Ketza Construction.
Hyatt Place Whitehorse will mark the first Hyatt-branded hotel in Canada’s Yukon Territory and offer the Hyatt Place brand’s intuitive design with inspiration from Yukon’s natural landscape and rich culture. The interior and exterior design is heavily influenced by local First Nation culture, reflecting both the history of the territory and the majority First Nation-ownership of NVD. Guests will enjoy 24/7 conveniences that help them seamlessly transition from work to relaxation, such as Free Wi-Fi and 24-hour food offerings.
Upon opening, the hotel will join Hyatt’s portfolio and participate in the award-winning loyalty program, World of Hyatt loyalty, which allows members to have the opportunity to earn and redeem points on stays at the hotel and across the World of Hyatt portfolio.
Located in the heart of downtown Whitehorse, the Hyatt Place hotel on Main Street will be steps away from shops, offices, restaurants, coffee shops, tourist attractions and the Yukon River waterfront.
“Over the years, NVD has invested significantly in hotel renovations and upgrades, but this Hyatt Place hotel is NVD’s first wholly new hotel development in its 20-year history. Seeing it come to life in downtown Whitehorse is a remarkable experience,” said Michael Hale, Chief Executive Officer, Northern Vision Development. “We wish to acknowledge the commitment of the Hyatt team as well as Ketza Construction and the many local businesses, tradespersons and suppliers involved in the project. Hyatt Place Whitehorse will be a key venue to support tourism growth in the territory and we eagerly look forward to opening our doors and welcoming guests next year.”
“Ketza Construction Corp. and all our trade partners wish to thank Northern Vision Development for entrusting us to deliver the new Hyatt Place hotel as part of their growing portfolio,” said Eric Brohman, President, Ketza Construction. “This project will diversify accommodation options in Whitehorse and set a new standard in tourism in the territory. We are excited to deliver the final product and showcase the talents of local tradespeople and what can be done in the Yukon.”

Hyatt Place Whitehorse is a testament to such approach. The Yukon is a vibrant and growing destination with national and international appeal. We cannot wait to be a proud and contributing member of this community.”
