WHITEHORSE, YUKON / CHICAGO – August 13, 2025 – Northern Vision Development Limited Partnership (NVD) and Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) announced today that Hyatt Place Whitehorse is open, further expanding Hyatt’s portfolio in Canada.
The 115-room hotel sets a new standard in northern hospitality and creates a guest experience unlike any other by combining the Hyatt Place brand’s convenient amenities with a design concept that connects travelers with the rugged landscape and history of the Yukon. The hotel prominently features First Nations carvings and artwork to honor the region’s rich cultural heritage and reflect the majority First Nation ownership of NVD.
Centrally located in downtown Whitehorse and minutes from the Erik Nielsen International Airport, Hyatt Place Whitehorse offers an ideal stay for guests exploring the Yukon or conducting business. The hotel is steps away from shops, offices, restaurants, coffee shops, tourist attractions like the McBride Museum of Yukon History, and the Yukon River waterfront. Guests will enjoy guestrooms with oversized windows that offer breathtaking views of the city’s iconic clay cliffs and surrounding mountains. The hotel offers elevated in-house dining at Carved Restaurant and the Lobby Lounge, featuring dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients, complemented by a curated selection of
wines and signature cocktails.
“As our first new-build hotel, Hyatt Place Whitehorse is a defining project for Northern Vision Development,” said Michael Hale, Chief Executive Officer, Northern Vision Development. “The heavily Indigenized design captures who we are as a company, while setting a new standard in northern hospitality. Hyatt Place Whitehorse offers accommodations and services on par with any major city, while providing a uniquely Yukon feel and experience. By investing more than $50 million and creating more than 40 permanent jobs, NVD is demonstrating its continued belief in this community, while adding meaningful jobs and opportunities for the people who live here.”
“We’re excited by the opening of Hyatt’s first property in Canada’s Yukon Territory and further expand our portfolio in Canada,” said Scott Richer, vice president of development and owner relations for Canada, Hyatt. “Hyatt is committed to growing its brand presence in Canada and has quintupled its portfolio in the country over the last 10 years, creating more places for our guests and 58 million World of Hyatt members to stay.”
